The exchange comes from asdfmovie, the animated sketch series created by TomSka on YouTube, where a would-be attacker confronts a potato and the potato calmly refuses to die. The joke became one of the series' most quoted moments, spawning remixes, animations and repeated references in later episodes. Its short setup and reversal made it easy to lift as a standalone reaction clip, and it is still used online whenever someone unexpectedly survives, refuses, or turns a losing moment around at the very last second.

The asdfmovie clip where a man shouts die potato and gets a calm not today in reply, used for defiant comebacks and last second escapes online.
A man delivers a dramatic threat to a potato, only for the potato to calmly answer back with a defiant 'not today' while turning the tables. The short exchange is performed in flat, deadpan voices that make the absurd standoff funnier, starting with aggressive confidence and ending in instant reversal. The potato sounds completely unbothered, which gives the clip its punchline energy. It works as a quick comeback sound, capturing the moment someone refuses to lose, gets underestimated, and flips a threatening situation in just a few seconds.
