Pew pew is a long-standing onomatopoeia for laser weapons in science fiction, comic books, and playground imitation, popularised through decades of space films, cartoons, and arcade shooters. The three-pew version became a staple of internet videos and soundboards because anyone can perform it and viewers recognise it instantly without context. It is now used less as a realistic effect and more as a comedic shorthand for pretend combat, toy battles, and nostalgic retro gaming moments, which is why it remains common in memes and short-form edits.

The classic pew pew pew laser blaster sound effect made with a mouth, used in memes and videos for playful fake gunfights and toy space battles.
This is a short vocal impression of laser blaster fire, with three quick pew sounds delivered in rapid succession in a playful, exaggerated tone. The mouth-made effect mimics retro sci-fi ray guns and toy laser pistols rather than a real weapon, which keeps it light and cartoonish. Its brevity and clear rhythm make it instantly readable even without visuals, and listeners immediately understand a pretend shootout is happening. It lands as a joke cue, adding energy and silliness to a scene instead of tension or danger.
