Shenmue is Sega's action adventure series created by Yu Suzuki, first released for the Dreamcast in Japan in 1999. The games follow Ryo Hazuki in 1980s Japan and China and were known for detailed open worlds, quick time events and unusually stiff English voice acting. That acting style later became a major part of the series' online humour, with short lines clipped out of context and reused as reactions. This tiny approval line survives for the same reason, turning sincere in game dialogue into a dry meme punchline.
