The arg arg arg laugh became widely recognized through SpongeBob SquarePants, where Mr Krabs, the money obsessed owner of the Krusty Krab, laughs in a deep pirate like chant. Clips of the character were cut into short soundboard buttons and shared across meme pages, Discord servers and short video edits. Because the laugh needs no context to read as greedy, it survived beyond the show as a standalone reaction sound. Creators now use it whenever a person, pet or game character acts possessively, celebrates a small win or fixates on cash.

Arg arg arg is a short pirate style laugh sound effect often linked to Mr Krabs from SpongeBob, used for greedy jokes and meme reactions online.
This is a rapid, throaty arg arg arg laugh delivered in a gruff cartoon pirate voice. The rhythm is short and repetitive, with each arg clipped and punchy, which makes it instantly recognizable even without visuals. It sounds greedy, smug and a little mischievous, like a character who has just spotted money or gotten away with something. Viewers hear it as an exaggerated reaction rather than a real laugh, so it lands as comedy shorthand. Placed over a still image or a freeze frame, it turns an ordinary moment into a joke about obsession, profit or shameless excitement.
