Banshees come from Irish folklore, where the wailing spirit was said to foretell death, and that legend has made the banshee scream a familiar shorthand for horror in films, games and online videos. Short versions of the sound circulate on soundboards and meme pages, where the contrast between the gentle title and the unsettling wail makes it easy to reuse as a joke. Because it is under two seconds long, it slots into reaction clips, spooky edits and Halloween compilations without needing any setup, and its popularity comes from that instant, recognisable scare rather than from one clip or creator.
Über diesen Sound
A short banshee scream sound effect with a high, ghostly wail, used for spooky reveals, jump scares and Halloween edits in memes and short videos.
This is a very short, high-pitched wail that sounds like a ghostly banshee crying out in the dark, rising quickly and then fading just as suddenly. Despite the playful title, the sound itself is eerie rather than sweet, with a thin, piercing tone that immediately feels supernatural and unsettling. It works best as a sudden shock or punchline, making a quiet scene feel haunted in under two seconds. Listeners tend to flinch, laugh nervously or brace for something spooky, which is why it fits horror jokes, Halloween clips and over-the-top reactions so well.
