Songbird first appeared in BioShock Infinite, released in 2013, as the enormous winged guardian tasked with keeping Elizabeth in her tower in the floating city of Columbia. Part machine, part bird, the creature communicates almost entirely through screeches, roars and the sound of tearing metal, which made its audio easy to lift for memes. Clips of its call began circulating in gaming edits and soundboards as a shortcut for an unstoppable protector arriving, and it remains popular because the noise is unmistakably large and threatening.

The Songbird sound from BioShock Infinite is a loud mechanical screech and roar used in game edits for sudden scares, entrances and monster reveals.
This is the call of Songbird from BioShock Infinite, the giant mechanical guardian that towers over Columbia. The four second clip is mostly harsh metal and animal-like noise, a high grinding screech that drops into a deep roaring blast with flapping and clanking underneath. It does not sound human or musical, it sounds huge, angry and close. Used alone it instantly signals danger, turning an ordinary entrance or reveal into a moment that feels like something massive has just arrived and is not happy to see you.
