Black Betty is a traditional American folk song that became widely known through Ram Jam's hard-rock recording in 1977, with its stomping rhythm and chant-style vocals giving it lasting energy. The track later found a second life online, where short clips of its opening riff were reused in memes, sports edits and TikTok videos to signal confidence and hype. Because the riff is instantly recognisable within seconds, it still works as shorthand for a bold entrance, even for viewers who do not know the full song.
Über diesen Sound
The driving Black Betty rock riff made famous by Ram Jam, used in memes, edits and sports clips for dramatic entrances, hype moments and comedic reveals.
The clip opens with a hard, stomping drum beat and a gritty electric guitar riff that immediately feels loud, confident and a little rebellious. A raw, chant-like vocal line drives it forward in short bursts, giving the sound a swaggering, bar-room energy that builds anticipation before it lands. It is instantly recognisable even in a few seconds, so listeners expect something bold, funny or over-the-top to follow. In short edits it works like a musical punchline, turning an ordinary entrance, reveal or comeback into a moment that feels bigger, louder and deliberately dramatic.
