Bolero was composed by Maurice Ravel in 1928 as a ballet score, originally created for dancer Ida Rubinstein and premiered in Paris that year. Built on one melody repeated by different instruments while the orchestra gradually grows louder, it became one of the most recognisable pieces of classical music. Its slow, relentless build has since been used in films, advertisements, and online videos, where a few seconds are enough to signal ceremony, suspense, or comic grandeur.
