The sound comes from Donkey Kong Country Returns, first released for the Wii in 2010 and later ported to 3DS and Switch, and it returns in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze from 2014. It plays on the life-loss animation as DK tumbles off screen. Clips of Nintendo deaths circulate widely as meme staples alongside sounds like the Roblox oof, and this particular version is the Returns take rather than the Freeze mix. Its cartoon exaggeration keeps it popular for kid-friendly fail edits.
Über diesen Sound
Donkey Kong's goofy death cry from Donkey Kong Country Returns and Tropical Freeze. Creators use this classic game over sound for fails and funny deaths.
This is the short, comical wail Donkey Kong lets out when he loses a life, a stretched "dweugh" that pitches down into a sad trombone-like flop. It lasts just under five seconds, starting with a surprised yelp before collapsing into a defeated groan. The exaggerated cartoon delivery makes failure feel funny instead of frustrating, which is why it lands so well in edits. Viewers instantly recognize the Nintendo-style goofiness, and the drawn-out fall gives creators a perfect beat to time a crash, slip or mistimed jump to.
