The ownage call comes from the Unreal Tournament announcer tradition, where short voice lines rewarded kill streaks during multiplayer matches. The original Dota mod for Warcraft III borrowed that same style of announcements, which helped carry terms like ownage, rampage and godlike into MOBA culture. As Dota 2 grew and clip editing spread on YouTube and Twitch, the isolated voice line was ripped as a standalone soundboard effect. It survives because it instantly signals dominance in competitive games without needing any context or explanation.
