The gasp comes from Ed, Edd n Eddy, the Cartoon Network animated series following Edd, Ed and Eddy, three friends scheming their way through life in their suburban cul-de-sac. Cartoon sound effects like this one travelled far beyond the original show as short clips were shared on soundboards and reused in reaction videos and memes. Its appeal is simple: a single recognisable cartoon inhale instantly signals shock without any dialogue, so editors can drop it into almost any surprising moment and viewers understand it straight away.
Über diesen Sound
Edd's sharp gasp from Ed, Edd n Eddy captures sudden shock in under a second, ideal for reaction videos and memes when something unexpected happens.
Edd lets out a quick, high-pitched intake of breath that lands almost instantly, a single startled gasp with no words attached. It sounds cartoonish and exaggerated, the kind of sharp inhale that signals panic, disbelief or a sudden realisation before the character can even speak. Because it is so short, it works as a punctuation mark in a scene, freezing the moment just long enough for viewers to feel the shock themselves. Played over a reveal, a mistake or an unexpected twist, it makes the reaction feel bigger and funnier, turning a quiet beat into an unmistakable 'did that just happen' moment.
