Five Nights at Freddy's began as an indie horror game released in 2014, built around surviving nights in a pizzeria watched by hostile animatronic characters. Its sudden jumpscares became one of the series' defining features, and clips of the screech spread widely through gameplay videos, reactions and edits. Reversed versions later circulated on soundboards and in meme edits, where reversing the audio is a common way to remix a familiar sting. The backwards variant keeps that association with the games while sounding fresh enough for rewind gags and fake-out scares.
