Gnarly is a 2025 single by global girl group KATSEYE, built around repeating the slang word gnarly for everything from impressive to disgusting. The track spread quickly on TikTok for its chaotic lyrics and delivery, which made it easy to parody. Fans began running its hook through the flat Google Translate text to speech voice, turning an energetic pop moment into a deadpan one word clip. That contrast helped the short audio circulate as a reaction sound in edits, memes and soundboards well beyond the original fandom.
Über diesen Sound
The Google Translate voice saying gnarly in a flat robotic tone, from the KATSEYE song meme. Used for deadpan reactions and absurd short edits.
This is a very short clip of the Google Translate text to speech voice pronouncing the word gnarly with completely flat robotic delivery. There is no music or emotion behind it, just the familiar synthetic voice stretching the slang word into a deadpan one word punchline. The contrast is what makes it funny, because gnarly is meant to sound excited and wild in the KATSEYE track, while this version sounds bored and mechanical. Dropped into a video it instantly turns a normal moment into a dry absurd reaction.
