Horses in the back comes from Old Town Road, the 2019 breakout single by Lil Nas X that blended country imagery with trap production. The song first spread on TikTok, where users filmed themselves transforming into cowboys as the beat dropped, before a remix featuring Billy Ray Cyrus pushed it to a record breaking run at number one. The horses line became one of its most quoted parts, reused in memes and edits long after the chart run as shorthand for an unexpected cowboy reveal.

Clip of Lil Nas X singing 'I got the horses in the back' from Old Town Road, used for cowboy memes, country jokes and farm reveal videos online.
This clip captures the instantly recognisable hook from Old Town Road where Lil Nas X delivers the line about having horses in the back over a laid back country trap beat. The vocal is relaxed and confident, with the twangy delivery making the lyric feel both serious and funny at the same time. Because the phrase is so visual, hearing it immediately paints a picture of cowboy hats, boots and a horse waiting just out of frame. That contrast between cool delivery and silly image is what makes the moment land as a joke without needing any setup at all.
