The sound comes from Maury, the long-running American daytime talk show hosted by Maury Povich, where guests learned the results of DNA paternity tests on stage. The 'You are not the father' reveal became one of the show's most recognisable moments, helped by the tense pause before the result and the audience's loud reaction. Clips of these reveals spread widely on social media and in reaction videos, where the line was reused to mock overconfident claims and unexpected twists. It remains popular because the phrase is instantly understood even without context, making it a shorthand for a dramatic denial.
