Neener neener is a traditional playground taunt that has been used by children for generations to tease a loser after a game or argument, with the sing-song rhythm doing most of the mocking. It moved naturally into online video because the chant needs no explanation and reads instantly as playful bullying, even without context. Creators now drop it into gaming clips, reaction videos, and short-form edits whenever someone is outsmarted or left behind, keeping it popular as a quick, family-friendly way to rub in a win.

A taunting chant repeated in a sing-song voice, used as a teasing sound effect in memes and gaming clips when someone is mocked or outplayed in a game.
Neener neener is the classic playground taunt, sung in a high, sing-song rhythm that instantly sounds childish and smug. The chant repeats the same two-syllable tease over and over, stretching the final neener just enough to rub in the joke, and its bouncy, mocking tone makes it feel like someone sticking their tongue out. Hearing it in a video instantly signals that someone has been beaten, tricked, or left behind, and it turns a simple win into a playful insult. It works because everyone recognises the playground rhythm, so the mockery lands without needing any words beyond the chant itself.
