Richard Watterson is the father in Cartoon Network's The Amazing World of Gumball, and this scream comes from a leg massage scene that fans clipped and shared as a standalone reaction sound. Once it reached soundboards and short-form edits, creators began using it as shorthand for exaggerated pain and panic, especially in comedy and gaming videos. Its long, rising delivery makes it easy to drop over almost any mishap, which is why it has stayed in rotation long after the original scene aired.

Richard Watterson screaming sound effect from The Amazing World of Gumball, taken from a leg massage scene and used in memes when a character panics.
This is Richard Watterson, the loud and easily overwhelmed dad from The Amazing World of Gumball, letting out a long, high-pitched scream during a leg massage that quickly turns painful. His voice climbs, cracks and keeps going, shifting from surprise to full panic as the pressure builds, which makes the moment feel both chaotic and cartoonishly funny. Because the scream is so exaggerated and instantly recognisable, it lands as a punchline on its own, turning a small mishap into a dramatic disaster and making viewers laugh at how over the top his reaction is.
