Wario Land 4 is a Nintendo platform game for the Game Boy Advance, released in 2001 and starring Wario, Mario's greedy rival, on a quest through a golden pyramid. Its jump and portal effects were part of the game's bouncy, cartoon sound design, built to make Wario's clumsy movement feel comic rather than heroic. Clips from retro handheld games later circulated on soundboards and in short gaming edits, where this short jump sound became a handy shorthand for a sudden warp or entrance. It survives because it is short, clear and instantly reads as a game jump.
