The X-Files theme was composed by Mark Snow for the American science-fiction television series The X-Files, which premiered in 1993. Its haunting whistle became pop-culture shorthand for conspiracies and the unexplained, and online creators began pairing it with absurd clips that make no sense, including Brazilian meme pages using the tag não fazendo sentido. The joke works because the music treats nonsense with deadpan gravity, and it remains one of the most recognisable TV melodies on the internet.
Über diesen Sound
The eerie X-Files theme meme for moments that make no sense. Classic for conspiracy jokes, bizarre fails and weird clips, ready to play and download.
It opens with that instantly recognisable whistling synth melody, floating over a bed of echoing pads and a slow, pulsing bass line. The tune is slow, eerie and slightly mournful, with a spacious, otherworldly quality that feels like staring up at the night sky waiting for something unexplained to happen. Even listeners who have never seen the show recognise it within a second, and the effect is immediate: whatever is on screen suddenly feels suspicious, mysterious or absurdly illogical. It turns ordinary nonsense into a grand conspiracy and makes the punchline land harder because the music treats the absurdity with total seriousness.
