Liu Kang is the Shaolin monk champion of Mortal Kombat, the fighting game series created by Ed Boon and John Tobias and first released in arcades in 1992. Short battle shouts like this one appear across the modern entries in the series, where every fighter gets a set of punchy combat vocals. Clipped out of gameplay, the grunt spread through fighting game highlight reels and meme edits, where its one-second snap makes it an easy drop-in reaction. It endures because Mortal Kombat's roster is instantly recognisable to gamers everywhere.

Liu Kang's sharp 'Tsu' grunt from Mortal Kombat, a quick one-second fighting game vocal. Creators use it as a reaction sound in memes, edits and gaming clips.
This is Liu Kang's short battle grunt — a sharp, exhaled 'Tsu' barked mid-fight in Mortal Kombat. Barely over a second long, it lands like a martial arts kiai, all snap and impact with no wasted breath. On its own it sounds like pure fighting energy; dropped into a video, it becomes an instant punctuation mark — the audio equivalent of a sudden punch, a surprised flinch, or a comically overconfident entrance. That raw, punchy delivery is why it cuts through dialogue and music, grabbing the viewer's attention in a single beat.
