The male MUTO debuted in the 2014 Godzilla reboot, where the winged creature emerges in Hawaii and battles Godzilla alongside the larger female. Its vocalisations were built from layered animal and processed sounds to feel unlike a traditional reptile roar. Clips of the cry later circulated among kaiju fans, editors and soundboard users who isolate monster calls for edits and memes. This second roar variation remains popular because it is short, recognisable to Godzilla fans, and instantly reads as a giant creature announcing itself.
