Monty Python's Flying Circus first aired on the BBC in 1969 and ran until 1974, created by Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Jones, Michael Palin, Eric Idle and animator Terry Gilliam. Its stream of consciousness sketches, cut out animations and abrupt endings broke the rules of television comedy at the time. Clips and audio cues from the series later spread through reruns, compilations and internet edits, where this short burst is now reused whenever a creator wants instant surreal, very British silliness.
