Wayne's World began as a Saturday Night Live sketch before becoming a 1992 comedy film starring Mike Myers as Wayne Campbell and Dana Carvey as Garth Algar, and its playful, self-aware humour helped turn the sarcastic NOT punchline into a widely copied nineties catchphrase. The gag works because it reverses a statement at the last second, a trick that travelled easily from television and film into internet reaction clips and soundboards. It remains useful today because short, instantly recognisable sarcasm fits reaction videos, memes and edits without needing any explanation.
À propos de ce son
Wayne's World sarcastic punchline where an excited amazing discovery is undercut with a flat NOT, used to mock fake reveals and anticlimactic moments.
This short Wayne's World clip builds up like a genuine breakthrough, with an enthusiastic voice announcing an amazing discovery, then instantly deflates it with a deadpan NOT that lands like a punchline. The contrast between the excited setup and the flat, dismissive payoff is what makes it funny, turning praise into sarcasm in less than five seconds. Listeners expect something impressive and instead get a joke about how unimpressive it really is, which makes the moment feel cheeky, knowing and very nineties. It works best as a quick reaction, because the reversal is instant, easy to understand and hard to miss even without seeing the film.
