In Portuguese, cala boca macaco literally means shut up, monkey, and the clip has circulated online as a Brazilian meme sound rather than as a line tied to one famous film or show. Its appeal is in the language itself, with the blunt phrase working as a universal shutdown even for viewers who only catch the tone. Shared through soundboards, short videos and chat audios, it became a go-to reaction for cutting someone off, and it stays popular because the delivery is short, loud and easy to drop into almost any argument or comedy edit.
À propos de ce son
A loud Brazilian Portuguese shout telling someone to shut up, used in memes and reaction videos to cut off annoying talk or win an argument instantly.
The clip captures a forceful, shouted Portuguese phrase delivered with exasperated comic timing, the voice rising sharply on the final word before cutting off abruptly. It sounds less like a real argument and more like a punchline, loud, blunt and instantly recognisable even to listeners who do not speak Portuguese. Played over a video, it lands as a sudden shutdown, silencing a rambling character, a bad take or an overlong rant in a single beat. The humour comes from its abruptness and attitude, turning an everyday scolding into a meme-ready interruption that feels satisfying, cheeky and deliberately over the top.
