The shout comes from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders, where Dio Brando activates his Stand, The World, to stop time for a few seconds during battle. Fans clipped the Japanese pronunciation of The World, Za Warudo, and it became a shorthand for dramatic pauses across anime edits, gaming videos and TikTok memes. Its popularity grew because the line is instantly recognisable even to people who have never watched the series, and it works as a universal signal that something big, unfair or hilariously overpowered is about to happen.

Dio shouting Za Warudo as time stops in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, the iconic anime sound effect used in memes, edits and reaction videos for dramatic reveals.
The clip captures Dio Brando unleashing his Stand, The World, with a sharp, theatrical shout that rises into a drawn-out cry before time itself seems to freeze. His voice is forceful and mocking, full of villainous confidence, and it is usually followed by a sudden, heavy silence that makes the moment feel suspended. That contrast is what gives it its power: the loud declaration promises something unstoppable is about to happen, while the stillness that follows lets the tension hang. For viewers who know JoJo, it instantly signals a dramatic pause, a reversal, or a character about to do something completely over the top.
