Kakashi Hatake is the masked jonin teacher from Naruto, known for his laid back attitude and his copied Sharingan eye. Nani became a widely shared anime reaction word online because it conveys shock in a single syllable, and Kakashi's version spread through Naruto edits, compilations and soundboards alongside moments like the Mangekyo Sharingan reveal. Editors keep reusing it because it needs no setup, pairing a famous character with an instantly readable emotion that works in gaming, anime and everyday reaction videos.

Kakashi saying nani in surprise from Naruto, a short anime voice clip used for confused reactions, shocked reveals and funny anime edits online.
This two second clip captures Kakashi Hatake reacting with a sharp, bewildered nani, the Japanese word for what. His delivery is calm but clearly caught off guard, with the word punched out quickly and left hanging without any follow up line. That sudden pause is what makes it land. The sound freezes a moment of disbelief, turning an ordinary surprise into a dry, funny overreaction that viewers instantly understand even without subtitles or context from the original scene around it.
