In Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines, the 2004 role playing game from Troika Games, choosing the Malkavian clan changes the whole experience. Malkavians are vampires afflicted with madness, and the game fills their playthrough with distorted dialogue, altered perceptions and disembodied whispering voices only they can hear. Fans later compiled those whispers together, often with subtitles and ASMR edits, which helped the sounds spread beyond the game into horror memes, fan videos and tabletop roleplay clips where a character needs to sound truly haunted by their own mind.
