Johann Sebastian Bach wrote his six suites for solo cello in the early eighteenth century, with the first suite in G major, BWV 1007, becoming the most widely recognised. Its prelude was largely overlooked until cellist Pablo Casals rediscovered the suites in the early 1900s and brought them into regular performance. Since then the opening melody has appeared in films, commercials, weddings and countless online videos, valued for its balance of simplicity and emotional depth. That long familiarity is why it still works instantly, even in a clip only a few seconds long.
