Bratok comes from Zelyony Slonik, known in English as The Green Elephant, a 1999 Russian underground film directed by Svetlana Baskova. The low budget production follows two officers locked in a guardhouse and became notorious for its extreme scenes and improvised dialogue. Short lines from the film later circulated on Russian forums, chats and soundboards as reaction clips. This call survived because the word itself is an informal way to address a close male friend, making it easy to reuse far beyond the original scene.
