Chocolate Rain was written and performed by Tay Zonday and uploaded to YouTube in April 2007, where his deep voiced performance quickly spread across forums and early social media. The song's lyrics address racism and social inequality, but the chorus detached from the full track and became a standalone meme. Parodies, remixes and references followed for years, cementing it as one of the defining viral videos of the early YouTube era and a lasting symbol of internet culture before influencers dominated platforms.

Chocolate Rain sound effect from Tay Zonday's viral 2007 song, featuring his deep baritone chorus that became a classic early YouTube meme clip.
This clip captures Tay Zonday singing the instantly recognisable chorus of Chocolate Rain in his unexpectedly deep baritone voice while playing piano. The delivery is completely straight faced, which makes the contrast between his young appearance, serious expression and booming tone so memorable. Just a few seconds are enough for viewers to identify it, turning an earnest original song into a shorthand for absurd internet nostalgia. It lands as both impressive and funny, a sincere performance that audiences repurpose as a reaction to anything overly dramatic or unexpectedly intense online today.
