The air horn blast moved from live dancehall and reggae sound systems, where DJs and MCs used it to signal a big tune or a rewind, into hip hop mixtapes and electronic dance sets in the 2000s. In the early 2010s montage parody culture turned it into the MLG air horn, stacking rapid blasts over gaming clips alongside other exaggerated effects. That ironic use stuck, and the sound now appears in sports edits, livestreams and short meme videos whenever a moment is treated as far more epic than it really is.
