Elmo is a long-running character from Sesame Street, the American educational television series that began in 1969. Known for his falsetto voice, giggle and third-person speech, Elmo became one of the show's most recognisable faces through songs and segments aimed at young children. Short audio clips of his singing later spread online as meme sounds and soundboard clips, reused far beyond the original children's context for ironic, nostalgic and wholesome edits on social media.
