The sound comes from Dr Hax, a character popularised by The GMod Idiot Box series made in Garry's Mod, where he yells Hax at anything that looks like cheating. Clips of the line spread through early YouTube gaming culture and forums as a shorthand accusation of hacking. It survives as a shocked sound for gaming edits because the gasp and stretched scream are instantly recognisable, even to viewers who never saw the original sketches, and because players still joke about hacks whenever a shot looks impossible.

The loud gasp and stretched HAAAAAAAAAAX scream from the classic GMod meme, used as an over the top accusation of hacking in gaming videos and edits
This clip opens with a sharp intake of breath before erupting into a long, distorted shout of HAAAAAAAAAAX. The delivery is panicked, accusatory and deliberately absurd, stretching a single word into a full alarm bell. It turns a small suspicious moment into instant comedy because the reaction is so much bigger than the offence. Viewers immediately understand the joke as a fake cheating accusation, and the rising volume makes the punchline land even without any picture on screen at all.
