Ghost groans are a staple of stock horror sound design, borrowed from decades of haunted house attractions, cartoons and low-budget horror films where an unseen spirit needed a voice. This short groan follows that tradition with a simple wavering moan rather than words or a scream. Online, creators reuse it as a reusable spooky cue for Halloween edits, game videos, animations and prank clips, especially in October. Its familiarity is the point, signalling a ghost instantly without needing makeup, effects or exposition.

A long, low ghost groan sound effect with a wavering moan, perfect for haunted houses, spooky reveals, jumpscares and creepy Halloween video edits.
This is a drawn-out ghostly groan that starts low and hollow, then wavers up and down like a spirit drifting through an empty room. The breathy moan has a classic haunted-house quality, with a slight echo that makes it sound distant and unsettled rather than loud or aggressive. It lasts just long enough to build dread before a reveal. Listeners instantly read it as supernatural, which is why it works so well under quiet scenes where nothing is visible yet but something clearly feels wrong and present.
