The Newspaper Zombie comes from Plants vs Zombies, the tower-defence game released by PopCap in 2009, where it shuffles toward the player's lawn reading a newspaper. When plants destroy that newspaper, the zombie drops its reading material, groans in anger and suddenly moves much faster, turning a slow joke enemy into a sudden threat. That transformation made the angry sound easy to lift from gameplay footage, and it has since circulated on soundboards and in short gaming edits as shorthand for a calm character snapping.

The angry groan of the Newspaper Zombie from Plants vs Zombies after losing its reading material, used in edits and memes to show sudden rage or frustration.
The clip is a short, guttural zombie groan that rises into an irritated snarl, the kind of sound a cartoonish undead enemy makes when it has finally had enough. It starts low and throaty, then sharpens as the zombie picks up speed, giving it a frantic, almost comical sense of urgency rather than real menace. Played over a reaction shot or a failed attempt in a video, it instantly reads as annoyance turning into over-the-top anger, making the moment funnier because the rage feels sudden, exaggerated, and a little ridiculous.
