Phonk grew out of Memphis hip-hop influences in the 2010s and found a much larger audience through SoundCloud, YouTube edits and TikTok, where its distorted bass and driving drums became closely linked with drift culture and high-energy montages. The Sika Mero version follows that same formula, working as a compact, loop-friendly piece of background music that creators can drop under short clips without needing a full song. Its continued use comes from that practicality: it is instantly recognisable as phonk, it builds momentum quickly, and it fits the fast pace of short-form video.
