The Super Peel Out first appeared in Sonic CD in 1993 as a faster alternative to the spin dash, letting Sonic rev in place before bursting forward with his legs blurred in a figure eight. Sonic Mania, released in 2017, brought the move back as an unlockable ability and revived its distinctive revving sound for a new generation of players. Clips and GIFs of the animation spread through gaming communities, and editors began lifting the audio alone to punctuate any sudden departure or high speed gag in fan videos and memes.

The revving peel out sound effect from Sonic Mania when the hedgehog builds speed before dashing, used in gaming edits and meme videos for fast escapes.
The sound is the high pitched spinning whir Sonic makes when he crouches, winds his legs into a figure eight blur and launches forward in a burst of speed. It starts with a rapid rising rev, like tires spinning on pavement, then snaps into a clean whoosh as he takes off and dust kicks up behind him. The effect is pure cartoon momentum. Even without the animation, listeners picture instant acceleration, which makes a normal run, drive off or quick exit feel suddenly urgent, comedic and much faster than it really is on screen.
