The clip comes from Edgar se cae, a home video uploaded to YouTube in 2006 that became one of the earliest viral hits in Mexico. Filmed in Monterrey, it shows Edgar trying to cross a stream while his cousin taunts him, and his repeated cries of ya wey became the catchphrase of the whole video. The phrase spread through early forums, ringtones and remixes long before short-form video existed. It is still reused today because that one panicked shout remains instantly recognisable to Spanish-speaking audiences online.
