Hong Kong 97 was released in 1995 for the Super Famicom by HappySoft as an unlicensed shooter, and it later became a cult joke online for its crude collage visuals and abrupt game over screen. Its music loops a short passage based on the Chinese song I Love Beijing Tiananmen, repeating with almost no variation through play. As retro gaming videos and reviews spread on YouTube, that loop became the game's most recognisable feature, and this remaster preserves its cheap, hypnotic quality while cleaning up the hiss and distortion of older rips.
