Zoids: New Century Zero is a 2001 anime series about competitive battles between giant mechanical animals called Zoids, and its combat scenes are full of short launch, lock-on and explosion effects clipped by fans for edits. This missile miss clip spread through soundboards as a compact near-miss joke, often grouped with other cartoon weapon noises like pew pew effects. It stays popular because the meaning is instant even without the scene, a big attack was fired and it simply did not connect.

A brief missile launch and miss sound effect from the anime Zoids: New Century Zero, used for failed attacks, dodges and near-miss moments in edits.
This is a quick whoosh and launch burst followed by the clear sense that the missile has missed its target. Taken from Zoids: New Century Zero, it carries that early 2000s anime battle energy, with a sharp mechanical launch and a fading trajectory that sells disappointment without needing dialogue. The brevity makes the joke land instantly, turning a dramatic weapon into a punchline for a dodge, a bad aim moment or an attack that fails at the last second in an edit.
