The chant is built around Northern Ireland striker Will Grigg, with fans adapting the melody of Gala's Freed from Desire into the line Will Grigg's on fire, your defence is terrified. It exploded among Northern Ireland supporters during UEFA Euro 2016, even though Grigg did not play in the tournament, and was then taken up by Wigan Athletic fans during his time at the club. Shared in stadiums, videos and social edits, it has outlasted that summer and remains a go-to celebration for a striker in scoring form.
Tentang suara ini
A football crowd chanting Will Griggs on fire to celebrate a striker in form, popular with Wigan and Northern Ireland fans in match edits and memes.
The clip captures a football crowd belting out the Will Griggs on fire chant in unison, with voices rising and falling to the familiar dance melody behind the words. It sounds loud, rhythmic and proudly defiant, like a terrace in full voice after a goal, with clapping and chanting layered over each other rather than a single polished vocal. The effect is instant energy and tribal pride, turning an ordinary highlight into a celebration and making the player feel unstoppable. Listeners recognise it straight away, even without the match footage, because the chant has become shorthand for a striker on a scoring run.
