The theme was originally composed by John Carpenter for Halloween in 1978, reportedly written in an hour and performed by Carpenter himself. Its minimalist piano pattern became one of horror cinema's most recognisable motifs, closely tied to Michael Myers. For Rob Zombie's 2007 remake, composer Tyler Bates retained Carpenter's core melody while adding heavier synthesisers and orchestral weight for a more aggressive tone. The cue has since been reused across trailers, haunted attractions, remixes and seasonal playlists every October.
