The theme comes from Sergio Leone's 1966 western The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, composed by Ennio Morricone for the final film in his Dollars Trilogy. Its whistle, guitar and wordless vocal chant became shorthand for the spaghetti western itself, and the tune travelled far beyond cinemas through trailers, television, adverts and countless parodies. Because the melody is recognised within seconds even by people who have never seen the film, editors still reach for it whenever a scene needs instant tension, rivalry or an old-west atmosphere.
