The Monsters University slug panics about being late on his first day, then misses the entire school year. Creators use it for slow starts and missed deadlines.

The clip captures the slug student from Monsters University in a rush that is doomed from the start. He speaks in a small, earnest, slightly breathless voice, insisting he cannot be late on his first day, while his famously slow movement tells a completely different story. The comedy comes from that gap between his urgency and his pace, as the scene stretches his short journey into a year-long delay. Listeners instantly recognise the joke even without the visuals, because the worried delivery and the absurd payoff make the character feel both relatable and hopelessly behind.

Suggerimento pro

Drop it before a cut to someone arriving far too late, then let the silence land before revealing what they missed. Pair it with a slow zoom or a calendar flipping forward, but never rush the pacing, as the joke depends on the slug's slowness.

Ulteriori informazioni

The sound comes from Monsters University, Pixar's 2013 prequel to Monsters, Inc., where a slug student hurries to class on his first day. Because slugs move so slowly, his rushed entrance becomes a running joke that ends with him missing the entire school year, a payoff that made the short moment easy to share on its own. Online, creators kept the clip alive as shorthand for being late, slow, or badly timed, especially in memes about school, work, and everyday procrastination.
