The clip comes from the closing moments of the Rick and Morty episode Rick Potion No. 9, first aired in 2014, where Morty is left traumatised after abandoning his original dimension. The track underneath is Look on Down from the Bridge by Mazzy Star, released in 1996, and its dream-pop sadness became inseparable from that thousand-yard stare. Fans clipped the ending for forums and video edits, and the sound spread as shorthand for a story that went too far and cannot be undone, which is why it still appears in dark twist compilations.

Look on down sound from Rick and Morty, a twisted ending clip used for dark reveals, ironic twists and unsettling meme edits and reaction videos online.
This is the haunting closing sound linked to Morty after a twisted Rick and Morty ending, built around a slow, dreamy vocal line repeating look on down. The music feels hazy and hollow, with soft guitar and a distant, mournful singing style that lingers rather than jumps. Played over a shocked reaction or a quiet aftermath scene, it instantly turns a joke into something bleak and reflective. Viewers recognise the drop in mood straight away, and that contrast between cartoon chaos and genuine sadness is what makes the clip stick in edits.
