The mashup pairs two very recognisable pieces of music. A Portuguesa has been Portugal's national anthem since 1911, while Friends ran from 1994 to 2004 and its theme, I'll Be There for You, became one of television's most parodied openings, hand claps included. Putting a national anthem into that bouncy sitcom format follows a long online trend of 'but it's the Friends intro' edits for countries, shows and friend groups. This version, credited to ginacocaina, keeps circulating because the format instantly signals an ensemble worth rooting for.

Portugal national anthem reimagined as the upbeat Friends TV intro, with claps and cheerful pop rock energy for fun edits and meme videos online.
This clip takes the Portuguese national anthem, A Portuguesa, and rebuilds it in the style of the Friends theme song, I'll Be There for You by The Rembrandts. Instead of a formal, orchestral march, you get bright guitars, a bouncy rhythm and the iconic hand claps that make the sitcom opening instantly recognisable. The contrast is the joke, turning a solemn patriotic melody into something light, friendly and oddly catchy. It feels nostalgic and playful at the same time, which makes even a simple slideshow or group photo montage sound like a TV ensemble cast introduction.
