The Smurf Cat meme exploded on TikTok in late 2023, built around a viral image of a cat photoshopped with blue Smurf-like skin and sometimes a mushroom cap. Creators paired the picture with the soaring 'we live, we love, we lie' hook from Alan Walker's 2017 single The Spectre, and the contrast between the epic music and the goofy cat made it an instant shitpost staple. It spread through TikTok edits, YouTube compilations and meme pages, and it is still used for ironic emotional cat videos alongside clips like the sad meow song.

Clip of the viral Smurf Cat meme song, the 'we live, we love, we lie' hook from Alan Walker's The Spectre. Popular on TikTok for funny cat edits and shitposts.
This is the short musical hook behind the Smurf Cat meme, built around the airy male vocal chanting 'we live, we love, we lie' over Alan Walker's pulsing electronic production. Bright synths swell underneath the vocal while a steady beat keeps it moving, giving the seven-second clip an epic, slightly melancholic lift. Paired with the image of the little blue mushroom-hatted cat, the dramatic sound turns an absurd picture into something weirdly emotional, which is exactly why viewers find it so funny. It feels grand and silly at the same time, like a movie trailer for a joke.
