Happy Tree Friends is an animated web series created by Kenn Navarro, Rhode Montijo and Aubrey Ankrum for Mondo Media, first released online in 1999. The show follows cute forest animals whose everyday adventures end in extreme, graphic accidents. Petunia, a blue skunk with a flower on her head, is one of the regular characters known for her neat, gentle personality. Clips of the characters' screams spread widely on meme soundboards and in YouTube edits, where Petunia's amputated scream became a reusable shorthand for cartoon gore and panicked overreaction.

Petunia's amputated scream from Happy Tree Friends, a high-pitched cartoon shriek used in meme edits, reaction videos and jumpscare pranks online.
This is Petunia's piercing scream from Happy Tree Friends, recorded at the moment the sweet blue skunk loses a limb in the show's trademark gruesome twist. The sound starts as a sharp gasp and erupts into a sustained, high-pitched shriek that is both cartoonish and genuinely distressing. Because it is so exaggerated, viewers instantly read it as over-the-top horror rather than real pain, which makes it perfect for dark comedy. The contrast between Petunia's cute design and the brutal scream is exactly why the clip lands so hard in edits.
