Phonk grew out of Memphis rap and underground SoundCloud culture, where producers sampled old hip-hop vocals over dark, bass-heavy beats, and it later exploded on TikTok and YouTube as background music for drift, gym and streetwear edits. Short phonk clips like this one spread because they are instantly recognisable, easy to loop and strong enough to carry a whole montage on their own. That combination of nostalgia, aggression and simplicity has kept phonk a staple of short-form video editing, even as individual tracks come and go.
