Don Ramón, played by Ramón Valdés, was one of the central neighbours in El Chavo del Ocho, the Mexican sitcom created by Roberto Gómez Bolaños that became a staple of Latin American television from the 1970s onward. His exasperated humour and unmistakable laugh made him a favourite for clips shared on soundboards, messaging apps and meme pages, especially among viewers who grew up watching reruns. Like other famous television laughs such as Nelson's HA-HA, it still works because the character is instantly recognisable and the sound needs no translation.
